PRINTING

  LINO PRINT

Reflecting on the Chinese Five Elements philosophy and my personal sign of earth I used pattern to reflect on my own visual relationship with my personal philosophical ideas of earth.

JUNIOR YEARS - TWO COLOR LINOCUT PRINT

The VCAA Visual Arts curriculum aims to develop students’ techniques, understandings of materials processes and of technologies in the junior years. Cutting linoleum for a reduction print offers opportunities to discuss safe handling of tools and apply technical skill in tool use. The concept of a reduction print helps students awareness of positive and negative space. Again thinking of sight, students could draw outline shapes of a still life or something they see in the classroom and combine with pattern to create a 2 color print.
This workshop was rushed, and attention to print quality should be addressed in future.

SCREEN PRINT

Provocation for screen printing came from using organic and geometric shapes to create a series of printing proofs. Working in pairs and collaboratively printing the classes shapes enabled repeated attempts at printing. Using the shapes and the space, positive and negative, on the page to create an abstract artwork was the lesson focus. Unpacking ideas of organic and geometric as opposed to symbolism would have benefited the final outcomes aesthetically.

MIDDLE YEARS -  PRINTING PROOFS

The middle years could take part in similar project but the printing process may take several weeks and attention to quality of the print should be addressed. The shapes could be printed onto one large collaborative canvas that is used to promote the Art Department in the school.

SENIOR YEARS - PHOTOGRAPHIC EMULSION

Senior years could apply the screen printing process to a series of tee shirts for a school cause or promotion. The Speedball DIAZO Photo Emulsion Kit enables

offers an easy to use transfer of a detailed image to a screen print and is ideal for type.
